5/22/2023 0 Comments Nichelle nichols star trek beyondThe Uhura role in television and movies is the crowning achievement of Nichols ’s long and productive career as an entertainer and advocate of space travel. Nichols changed that, serving as a role model not only for would-be black actresses but also as a symbol for young women who dreamed of becoming astronauts and scientists. Before Lieutenant Uhura took to the bridge on the starship Enterprise in the late 1960s, black women had assumed mostly subordinate-and unimportant-roles on television shows. Her character, Lieutenant Commander Uhura, provided an unprecedented inspiration for a generation of young black viewers –an educated, dignified space traveler in a future world devoid of bigotry and sexism. As a starring member of the original Star Trek television series, Nichelle Nichols trod a pioneering path in network broadcasting.

In a confessional during her time on "Dancing with the Stars," Sweetin explained (via ET), "The darkest moments for me weren't necessarily winding up in the hospital or anything like that. About the Book Beloved Full House star Sweetin recounts her journey from being one of Americas sweethearts to a life of drug abuse and finally recovery. As I grew older, and as the years passed, I left YA novels behind and searched for stories that made me swoon, giggle, and fall in love - but now with older protagonists just like myself. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa, and The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, were books I read one after another. The author’s writing is impressive, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride that was Farley and Meyer’s romance. The story is wholesome, full of feelings both funny and heartfelt and is guaranteed to warm your heart. Back in high school, though, I didn't read only romance books I had a preference for YA novels. Tarah DeWitt’s Funny Feelings is a charming romance novel that reignited my love for the single-dad trope. I have always been a romantic at heart, so I want everyone to have a happy ending whenever I read a book, especially people who fall in love with someone who complements them perfectly. It touches on the creative spirit and all that comes with sharing that gift, and how oftentimes the comedians in our lives are the most sensitive, or struggling. I started reading romance novels back in high school. Funny Feelings is a swoony story about friendship, love, and looking for the laugh in life. And since I've read so many books this year, I want to share my favorite ones. I don't think I've read more than 100 books since 2019, so 2022 is already a win for me. This year has been very good in terms of reading. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Deborah howeOCOM’s Board of Trustees, advised by a search committee of faculty, staff, students, and alumni unanimously approved the appointment. STORY (classic sci-fi) - Way Station is a thoroughly enjoyable book. Did Lucy actually decide to go? How did CIA gin sing guy assuage Lucy's parents? What happened with the meeting with earth's leaders and did it have any positive effect on ending the pending war drums? It was frustrating to spend that much time on a novel and come away with no further movement on the whole premise of the novel, humankind's encounter with aliens. I was most disappointed with how it ended, leaving many of the important issues unresolved. Then the repeated instances where the protagonist endlessly waxed philosophical on every situation where a decision branch was encountered. Then the repetition began where the author would continue have the protagonist over-think almost every situational encounter. And, for the first quarter of the story, I found it interesting and novel. I was intrigued with the concept of person becoming a host for wayward space alien travelers for a couple of centuries. a Edgar Allen Poe versus a Dean Koontz novel of today, I still feel that there was more wrong than right with it.
